A down to earth cup of coffee

Longtime coffee roaster Paul Sharo and his coffee crew finally decided to open their own cafe and workshop. And frankly, to me Man Met Bril (Man With Glasses) Headquarters feels as if it has always been.

As their postcard slash business card says they’re the only coffee brand from Rotterdam. But their new digs actually don’t suit the title or come to think of it, they might have just nailed it. The place is nothing posh, but has a light and simple decor and is located  in one of the so-called Hofbogen underneath the old train tracks.

At the captain’s table
When inside, at first glance one could easily find themselves having coffee in London or Cape Town. The crowd, the staff and the timeless interior add up to an international vibe that makes you feel right at ease.  As if you just walked in on a roasting session, you can sit down in the middle of coffee roasters, buckets and stacked sacks of coffee beans.  It feels a bit like you’ve gotten a hold of a hot seat at the captain’s table in a restaurant. And that’s the way you are treated. With hospitality and politeness but with a typical Rotterdam laidback down to earth attitude.

What’s in a name?
Want to have a chat with the owner? Well I guess it doesn’t come as a surprise to you he wears glasses. And quite a big beard.
You can find Man Met Bril just outside the city center. A few other places found their way to this upcoming area as well. Man Met Bril is just a few steps away from Urban bakery and close to art gallery Roodkapje and vegan restaurant Gare du Nord. Just follow the Hofbogen until you smell the coffee.Man met bril coffee and entrance
