Lof der Zoetheid

Cakes, muffins, brownies, chocolates, quiches…you name it. Lof der Zoetheid is the perfect place to soothe your sweet tooth or just to have your morning coffee.

Lof der Zoetheid isn’t your average tea and lunch room. It’s owned by graphic-designer-turned-baker and fifties lover Anastasia and her mum Elena. The two ladies experiment, create and prepare their homemade goods in their onsite baking laboratory slash kitchen. Rotterdam based design studio Depot Rotterdam put the cool interior together. Sure bet, you’ll find the perfect combination of food, great interior design and a creative vibe. Maybe that’s why the place is always packed with the cool kids in town.

What’s in a name?
If you are wondering what the name means, it’s an ode to sweets and refers to 16th century Rotterdam humanist Desiderius Erasmus’ book Lof der Zotheid (The praise of folly). But luckily for this hotspot, the comparison ends at the praise part.

Bike ride
Hop on your bike, head over to the Rotterdam North area and make sure to try Lof der Zoetheid’s srumptious carrot cake. The best in town if you ask me. When you’re around anyway, check out the cool design and craft shops at Zaagmolenkade and Zwaanshals. They’re just around the corner from Lof der Zoetheid. If you’re up for some more design goodness, make a slight detour to visit Depot Rotterdam’s shop and showroom.
